Student wins 2019 Under 18 Mombasa Chess Open Championships

In October, DP1 student Rahul Doshi won the 2019 Under 18 Mombasa Chess Open Championships. In this two-day event, Rahul was unbeaten in all of his rounds where he competed against participants from Mombasa, Nairobi and other parts of Kenya. 

Rahul Doshi (DP1), second from right, with his trophy.“I learned how to play chess when I was young, but I only started playing competitively as of January 2018,” Rahul said. “Since then I've taken part in a number of tournaments with this one, the Mombasa Open, being the most recent. I participated in the under-18 category where I managed to get 5.5 points out of 6 (5 wins and 1 draw), which I was extremely pleased with. Therefore, I finished undefeated and won the trophy for the best under-18 boy in the Mombasa Open. There were about 35 participants from all over Kenya in the under-18 section.”
