Sail Away!
The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa has recently established a relationship with Mombasa Yacht Club. A pilot sailing programme has been in operation since May. Ten residential students have nearly completed their stage 1 induction programme that would qualify them as cadets at the club.
The Mombasa yacht club, the oldest Yacht club in East Africa, celebrated its one hundred anniversary this year and has been very keen to promote sailing for youngsters in Mombasa. The students learnt the basics of navigation in the clubs 420’s and have since progressed to solo sailing in the Toppers.
The programme shall be opened up to more students now that the pilot programme is nearing completion. New students shall embark on the stage 1 training programme, whilst the cadets will pursue the stage 2 programme, which shall enhance their existing skills and knowledge.
