Brother-sister duo from AKA Mombasa shine at Nyanza Badminton Championship

Siblings Sathyam Gohil (year 7) and Diya Gohil (year 9) from the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa won laurels at Kenya's annual national badminton tournament, the Nyanza Badminton Championship, held in Kisumu, Kenya on 12 and 13 October 2019.

The Nyanza Badminton Championship is Kenya’s national annual badminton tournament that has been highly attended by local and international players around East Africa for over a decade.

Sathyam secured the first position in the boys under 12 singles category. He was also placed second in the boys under 15 doubles category.

“I am extremely happy to have won the Nyanza National Badminton Championship and look forward to playing for Kenya in the future,” said a beaming Sathyam.

Diya was placed second in the under 15 girls singles and doubles category.

“I started playing badminton as a leisure sport, so securing second place at the championship was both unexpected and exciting!” exclaimed Diya.

The Academy congratulates the siblings on their outstanding performance.
