05 May 2014

Our swimming team continues its wonderful journey beyond the African continent. After the great success in South-Africa, the selected swimmers travelled to Kampala, Uganda on the 23rd to the 27th April. During the CANA (Confederation Africaine de Natation Amateur), Shivraj Vaghela won two gold medals in the relays 4 x 100m freestyle and 4 x 50m medley relay. Kharan Khagram, 3 silvers in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke.

Based on their performance during the season, both Sabrina Kassam and Joshua Ekirikubinza who swim on our team will represent Tanzania and Uganda respectively at the Common Wealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, this year. Joshua has a last hurdle to clear in two weeks’ time in a meet in Botswana to be able to access the Youth Olympic Games in China.

Caroline Kameta who swam for the Mombasa County has been selected for the Youth African Games which will be in Gaborone, Botswana between the 28th and the 29th May.

Note that Coach Rama (Ramadhan Vyombo) who was part of the Kenyan delegation that flew to the CANA event in Uganda did so on the swimmers squad and not as a coach. He won a gold medal in the 4 x 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m butterfly.

Congratulations to the AKA,M swimming squad and to the coaches for these excellent achievements.
