10 February 2020

From 21-25 January, 18 students from AKA Mombasa attended the 26th annual Middle School Model United Nations conference held in Nairobi, Kenya in which the Academy was recognised for coming up with the best resolution in the technology committee.

The title of the winning resolution was "Addressing the Lack of Electricity Production in Chad by Comissioning and Building Three Thorium Molten Salt Reactors". The group of Academy students who came up with this resolution consisted of Noor-e-Rehmat Khowaja, Year 8, Nivyan Lakhani, Year 9, Ilyana Jiwa, Year 9, and Maheera Intikhab, Year 8.

More than 60 international schools, including the Academy, attended the conference, which provides its participants an opportunity to enhance their skills in critical thinking, lobbying, research, diplomacy and debate.

"MUN simulates the activities of the real United Nations Organisation and aims to build up the confidence and enhance the debate skills of all the participants," said Johnson Monari, the Academy's coordinator for MSMUN. "It also aims at developing creativity and critical thinking as students write and justify solutions on major challenges facing the world."
