Secretary of State for Maputo Province visits the Aga Khan Academy Maputo

On Friday, 11 December 2020 Her Excellency Victoria Dias Diogo, Secretary of State for Maputo Province visited the Aga Khan Academy Maputo. Through an invitation extended by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Her Excellency visited the campus where she interacted with students and staff members. 

Welcomed by Head of Academy Michael Spencer, lead on construction at the Academy Laura Brandao and AKDN Mozambique Representative Adjunct, Rui Carimo, Her Excellency was offered a guided tour of the Academy’s campus along with the projects currently in progress to expand the school. During the tour, Her Excellency also interacted with the Grade 2 and 5 students in their classrooms and the library. 

“It was a pleasure hosting Her Excellency Victoria Dias Diogo,” Head of Academy Michael Spencer said. “We were struck by her insight and knowledge of our project, but also by the wonderful rapport she established with our students. Her Excellency spontaneously demonstrated some wonderful teaching skills and was impressed by the new Academy infrastructure.”

Her Excellency was impressed with the continuous work of the Academy and endorsed the efforts of the students and staff, especially during the current pandemic. Before departing, Her Excellency signed the Academy’s guest book, conveying her joy and amazement at the work the Academy has been doing. 

“It is a dream that day by day, becomes a reality," wrote Her Excellency in the guest book. "The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is a bridge that finds talented children, independent of their background. This Academy is the reality of a vision that knowledge cannot, and should not, be denied to anyone.”
