In Memoriam Roy White
The Aga Khan Academy Maputo is deeply saddened to share that Roy White, Head of Academy, passed away on 27 March 2026. He was much-loved by our school community and will be greatly missed by all.
Originally from Canada, Roy was an experienced educator and school leader with more than 30 years of experience in education. Since joining the Academy in 2023, he inspired students, staff and families through his commitment to excellence, compassion and belief in the power of education to transform lives.
Roy was a dedicated individual who cared deeply about the school community. He was passionate about making a difference and consistently moved the community forward, leading initiatives that extended well beyond the Academy and creating a lasting impact.
Before joining the Academy, Roy successfully led four international schools within Asia and Europe. Additionally, he held leadership roles within the English Schools Foundation of Hong Kong, a high-achieving network of schools, and founded a school from the ground up on a restricted budget. He later served as the director of Education Consultants & International Student Services in London, UK. He also advised founders, principals and boards of several schools in Asia and Europe – including two he led as head of school – and consulted for a large group of kindergartens in Singapore and China.
Roy began his career as a mathematics teacher and later became head of mathematics at Sha Tin College in Hong Kong. He graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada and earned a Master of Education from the Open University of Hong Kong.
Roy will be remembered for the lasting impact, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Roy’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
The Academy will hold a celebration of life to honour Roy.
