Grade 6 field trip to Tunduru Gardens

13 May 2022

On 6 May 2022, the Grade 6 students at the Aga Khan Academy Maputo took a field trip to Tunduru Gardens to learn about how local resources can be used to facilitate learning. This field trip encouraged students to reflect on the impact of parks and gardens to unite people and contribute to the development of communities and their cognitive, psychological, social and physical health.

To prepare for the field trip, the students used the skills and knowledge they learned from different subjects, such as how to use a camera (arts), descriptive writing (English and Portuguese) and how to present their work (drama). This all came together during the field trip as the students took photos of the beautiful gardens, jotted down some notes of what they were seeing and presenting their findings and what they admired through miming.

Grade 6 student Filipe Paunde said he not only enjoyed his time at the garden, but also learned a lot too.

"These gardens are the most beautiful and peaceful place I have ever been in a long time," Filipe said. "I learned how I can make my home garden an amazing place to be while enjoying a tasty snack in the gorgeous surroundings of Tunduru Gardens. Oh, what a wonderful day!"
