Qutub Shahi Tombs Visit

02 September 2015

On Saturday, 29th August, the Junior School went on a field trip to visit the Qutub Shahi Tombs to learn more about the history of Hyderabad and to see first hand the conservation and restoration work undertaken by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) in partnership with Telengana government organisations.

The students were keen to know more about the story behind each tomb, and asked several questions of the guides. They were also able to see some of the structures in disrepair, and the others that have been transformed after the restoration work done on them. The architecture is a blend of Islamic and Hindu traditions and reflects the rich heritage of the bygone era. The environment was evocative of the reign of the Qutub Shahi rulers who built these structures about 400 years ago.

There was a lot of walking involved and the JS students and teachers were tired and hungry by the time they had a picnic lunch, however everyone came away equipped with a deeper knowledge of the tombs and filled with a sense of pride at the AKTC venture.
