PYP Annual Musical

30 May 2014

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) students of the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad participated in their annual musical on Thursday, 30th May.

“All Around This Big World” is about an exciting journey by the Junior School of the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad, on a hot air balloon ride. All 150 students of the PYP from Grades 1 to 6 were on stage as one big choir, singing songs and performing dances as the hot air balloon took them from country to country around the globe.

The scenes were woven together through a TV newscast and through the performance of the balloon song “Up We Go”, by Grade 4 students. The newscast took the audience from Washington (USA) to Hyderabad to Spain, to the Caribbean and to Stonehenge in England, and finally, to a huge carnival in Brazil.

The performance kick started with the Grade 1 girls performing a traditional dance to the ‘Swagatham’ song. The Hyderabad scene consisted of a Qawali song performed by Grade 2. Grade 1 students then performed a Spanish dance, followed by Grade 3 students who represented the Caribbean. The Grade 5 students took us on the journey to Stonehenge, and finally, we ended up in Rio de Janeiro with the entire Junior School cast.

Each place was represented by strikingly magnificent sets including the Charminar, palm trees, a Spanish bull and the stones of Stonehenge. The students were in spectacular costumes fitting for the scenes depicted. The Grade 6 students were the lead singers adding voice and vitality to the choir. The performance was a result of the team work and dedication of all the PYP teachers.

“All Around This Big World” pays tribute to the diversity of cultures and celebrations around the world, all through energetic singing by the students. It was a treat to the eyes and ears.
