First Day of School

12 August 2014

The first day of school is perhaps the most exciting one for both the teachers and the students. It was welcoming to see the familiar yellow buses on the road; the sound of excited chatter as we walked along the pavement. Everything seemed familiar yet different at the Senior School as we witnessed the arrival of not only new students and a host of new faculty members but also our new Head of Academy, Dr Geoffrey Fisher

The students were welcomed by Mr Raymond Zinsli (Senior School Principal) and Dr Fisher. The atmosphere was exhilarating as the students were excited about moving to the next grade, meeting their friends and teachers after a long time and the prospect of meeting new people.

A number of activities were planned for the students to introduce them to the Aga Khan Academy and the IB programme. It began with getting to know the new students, exploring the Aga Khan Academies and IB mission statement, and the IB Learner Profile. As the students were divided into groups, it gave them an opportunity to discuss and brainstorm the Academies philosophy. It was an insightful session for both the old and new students.

The day was followed by further welcoming sessions for the students by their respective form tutors and Grade Leaders.
