Celebrating Excellence: Students Inducted into Book of Excellence

23 February 2022

Individual acts of exceptional personal example or work can be entered into the Academy’s Book of Excellence.  Students are nominated by staff, who feel that the student’s work or contribution is so impressive that it deserves a very special recognition.  The Book of Excellence provides a written record of all outstanding pieces of work or significant contributions to the community achieved during a student’s time here.

Students so nominated are invited to the Principal’s Office to sign the book beside the nomination entry.  A special letter of congratulation is sent to parents and a framed certificate is displayed in the Academy.  All entries in the Book of Excellence can be included on student transcripts/recommendations and may be listed as an “Honour” on university applications.

Four students - Mahek Charania, Farkhunda Fazelyar, Armaan Manji, and Lizna Lakhani - were inducted into the Book of Excellence during a special ceremony Wednesday, 23 February 2022.

MAHEK CHARANIA
Class of 2022

As a founding member of the Academy’s Committee for Social Media Content, Mahek took responsibility for the content of the Academy’s Instagram account. Mahek is commended for the outstanding content they have created and for manner in which they have risen to this uniquely demanding challenge during the covid-19 pandemic. Showing commitment and determination, Mahek has worked tirelessly amidst competing demands and a busy schedule to produce exceptional work over many months. During the Winter Festival and the Bike Race, Mahek put aside their own opportunity to participate and celebrate with friends in order to put together an outstanding piece of high-quality work. Spending hours creating and editing, Mahek has demonstrated the values we hold dear - resilience, integrity, humility, creativity and perseverance. Mahek has gone above and beyond what was required of her and shown the qualities of leadership which characterise the vision of the Aga Khan Academies.

FARKHUNDA FAZELYAR
Class of 2022

Farkhunda has been a part of the Admissions Office Internship Programme from March 2021. Even before she joined the internship programme, Farkhunda contributed greatly towards the filming of the first-ever virtual open day video in the summer of 2020. She participated in the scripting process and was also a pivotal performer as one of the lead anchors introducing the Academy to the outside world. Farkhunda has time and again displayed exemplary leadership skills. During the Orientation Programme conducted in the summer of 2021, she worked with us from Kabul. Her ability to participate in those sessions and make herself available to assist others has shown us the confidence she has in herself. She has been an outstanding team player, often putting others ahead of herself.

Farkhunda has made time to interact with prospective students and their families. Whether it was conducted online or in person. Her calm nature, warm personality and approachability, led to new students feeling at home on our campus. It must be noted that Farkhunda has never turned down an opportunity to support an initiative of the Admissions Office. Alongside her commitment towards the Admissions Office, she has time and again supported the Communications Office.

Farkhunda has gone above and beyond what was required of her and shown the qualities of leadership which characterise the vision of the Aga Khan Academies.
