Academy admissions 2016–17 update

12 August 2016

Admissions has achieved some noteworthy milestones as we start this new academic year. As of August 2016, the Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad is close to full capacity for the first time with 650 students across all three International Baccalaureate programmes: the Primary Years Programme (grades 1–5), Middle Years Programme (grades 6–10) and Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12).

With 290 in our student residences, our girls dorms are full. A few places remain in the four boys dorms. With our year-round rolling Academy admissions process, these are currently creating interest. Our student body represents 13 nationalities and 11 states in India. With a curriculum that is both international and has strong local connections, and teaching staff from more than 10 countries, we provide a uniqe offering in the Indian school landscape.

The Academy's Junior School has opened new classes in grades 2, 4 and 5 to accommodate new students. We are anticipating opening new classes for grades 1 and 3 by January 2017 to keep our class sizes optimised for personalised learning. An increasing number of girls are applying to join us this year, reinforcing our mission to empower ‘the girl child’ through quality education.

During the last academic year, our admissions team visited Mumbai, Patna, Goa, Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, Calcutta, Chennai, even crossing the border to Bangladesh to scout for exceptional students with academic and leadership potential. Four new students from Afghanistan have joined us as part of our commitment to provide access for children from conflict areas to a world class education. We are excited to see how 2016-17 proceeds, with such a carefully selected and diverse student community!
