Visual Arts competition

13 November 2020

The Aga Khan Academy Maputo's new Visual Arts teacher Rachael Odwyer organised a Visual Arts competition for her students with the theme of festivals. The students' submissions covered a wide variety of festivals including Eid, Diwali, Christmas, Easter, New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day, with some entries from students focused on Halloween and the Day of the Dead. Students from all grades were invited to participate, with the competition receiving nearly 50 submissions.

"As one of the newest staff members, who is unfortunately still unable to be with everyone in Mozambique, I thought it would be a fun idea to introduce myself to you everyone by starting a little friendly competition where students could be creative and imaginative, whilst practising their art skills at the same time," said Rachael. "This also gave me a fantastic insight into just how talented our students are, and I am more excited than ever now to get to meet everyone soon! Hopefully, this will be the first of many, many competitions and events from me, so stay tuned!"
