Book Character Day

28 October 2022

Students and staff across the Aga Khan Academy Maputo celebrated Book Character Day on Friday, 28 October by dressing up and taking part in different activities related to the books they have been reading.

In the Junior School, the students had a special assembly where they wrote a story together that had everyone giggling.

Later, Elcidio Bila, an author, visited the Academy to talk about a special project, Kuvaninga, which helps children create and tell their own stories, and manufactures them into books using recycled materials. The students participated in some wonderful discussions about the process authors use, responsible production and manufacture, and the importance of being able to tell your stories.

In the afternoon, the Academy's Early Years students played an activity in which they had to find different book characters hidden around their classrooms. Meanwhile, Grades 1-5 students were busy racing around the Junior School to find clues for the Book Character Day QR Code Hunt the teachers set up. Each QR linked to a video with different clues about books.

In the Senior School, the students participated in a number of activities and had a special assembly where the students showcased their special performances around the characters they were dressed as.

In the end, the entire school came together before lunch for a parade in which they students and staff showed off their creative costumes.

It was a fun learning day for all at the Academy!
