On 7 February 2023, Grade 8 students at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka took a field trip to the Dhaka Art Summit 2023 – an international exhibition for art and architecture related to South Asia – where they learnt about contemporary art and culture. The trip was related to their unit on contemporary practice. It was organised by the visual arts team of the Academy with the help of a group of faculty members to provide the students with an inspiring experience.
Students explored the exhibition area with sheer enthusiasm as they experienced how the emerging artists from home and abroad addressed social, emotional, environmental and many other aspects of the world through paintings, photographs, sculptures, installation arts and an array of simulations.
“The field trip was a fantastic experience for me,” said Grade 8 student Shaneela Samiha Khan. “I was stunned by the beautiful and eloquent pieces displayed that represented this year’s exhibition.”
Visual Arts Teacher Ms Lamia Khan thinks this is a unique opportunity for the students to better understand creative diversity and nourish their intellectual abilities.
“The trip allowed the students to explore different media, cultural concepts and the purpose of artworks and artists,” Ms Lamia said. “It will help to nurture their artistic abilities and express themselves better through their artworks.”
