Meet Suvina Shunglu, head of Academy

Suvina Shunglu was born in Varanasi, India and is the new head of Academy at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka. Suvina has worked in the field of education and school administration for the last 27 years, with an additional seven years in the corporate sector. She is known for her strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities that provide students and staff with opportunities for growth. Suvina has a proven track record of success in holistically improving the schools she has led. In her previous role as the founding principal of Sri Sri Academy in Kolkata, India, Suvina promoted a culture of quality education, diversity and inclusion, which resulted in the institution receiving multiple awards for educational excellence.

Through her position, Suvina stated that she aspires to achieve the mission and vision of the Aga Khan Academies by building upon its legacy of excellence and fostering a nurturing environment for students and staff.

“I envision an Academy where academic excellence, character development and innovation harmoniously coexist to develop indigenous leadership,” Ms Suvina said. “In pursuit of academic excellence, we will strengthen our curriculum, ensuring it remains both challenging and relevant to the changing global landscape. By embracing innovative teaching methods and technology, we will empower our students to become adaptable, critical thinkers and lifelong learners. To foster collaboration, I will create platforms for open communication among students, parents, faculty and staff. Our shared commitment will be the driving force behind the Academy’s success.”

Suvina loves the plentiful greenery around the campus and is waiting for the students’ activities to begin in the upcoming academic year.

“My favourite places at the moment are the islands of green that I see around me,” Ms Suvina said. “I am also looking forward to enjoying students’ participating in sporting events at the Maidan.”
