Grade 8 student Jawad excels in the international tennis tournament

24 January 2023

Jawad Bhuiyan, a Grade 8 student at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka who represented Bangladesh at the ITF Asia U-14 Development Championships 2023, brought home the runners-up trophy. The competition, which ended on 19 January, featured 10 teams, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, Nepal, Chinese Taipei, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

All four competitions, which included the boy's singles and doubles, and the girl's singles and doubles, featured a total of 34 players. Jawad and Tushar, the Bangladeshi pair, fought their best but unfortunately embraced defeat in the final against Pakistan.

Jawad diligently participates in sports activities at the Academy and appreciates the constant encouragement he receives from his faculty members.

“My teachers have been a constant support to my journey so far,” Jawad said. “They have largely contributed to my achievement.”

Jawad’s father Mr Zahirul Alam Bhuiyan expressed his gratitude to the Senior School leadership team for allowing Jawad to play in the tournament and making the necessary arrangements to keep up with his lessons.

“We are grateful to the Academy team for everything they have done so far for Jawad,” Mr Zahirul said. “As the flag bearer of the Academy and Bangladesh, I believe he will go a long way with this assistance.”
