Grade 7 students participate in radio drama storytelling through sound
Before the advent of television and modern media, radio was the only medium to receive news and entertainment. Families used to huddle around radio receivers to listen to audio plays and news broadcasters.
Keeping that in mind, Grade 7 students at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka recreated a radio drama in their drama class. Using their imagination, different voices and sounds, and projecting a similar atmosphere to that of a movie, the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience as this was their first time attempting something like this.
“Initially, it was challenging, but together we aimed higher and worked hard on the rehearsals,” said Grade 7 student Tashnim Hoque Biban. “Which is why we were able to do such good work.”
The Academy’s Drama Teacher Mr Vishwajit Shinde focused on the recent boom of the audio industry and its expansion on new fronts in the modern era. He further emphasised the convenience of experimenting with audio compared to other mediums.
“Due to a rise in podcasts, audio is not just a way of entertainment anymore, but a new way to learn, to keep up with the news and to advertise, and expand a business,” Mr Vishwajit said. “People with only a laptop and a microphone can now make a podcast from scratch from their homes and succeed.”
