AKA Hyderabad awarded platinum certification for COVID-19 preparedness

27 April 2021

The Aga Khan Academy Hyderabad has been awarded a platinum-level certification for its hygiene management and COVID-19 readiness by Bureau Veritas, a world leader and globally respected name in testing, inspection and certification. The Academy is also the only educational institution in India to receive this certification. Below, Head of Academy Dr Jonathan Long informs parents of this certification, what this means for the Academy and its future in terms of reopening for in-person learning.

Dear Parents,

I’m delighted to share some exciting news with you! The Academy has been awarded a platinum-level certification for its hygiene management and COVID-19 readiness by Bureau Veritas, a world leader and globally respected name in testing, inspection and certification. Platinum certification is the topmost rating an institution can achieve.

Based on rigorous independent audits of our health, safety and hygiene practices, this represents 6-months of hard work to bring our systems and processes in line with the very best global standards of excellence. We are currently the only educational institution in the whole of India to receive this certification from Bureau Veritas.

When the Academy eventually reopens, this certification will provide reassurance that our systems and practices have been assessed against the highest international standards of hygiene and safety. Unannounced audits by Bureau Veritas will continue to take place to ensure that standards are maintained.

We also continue to partner with Momentum India, India’s leading consulting firm specialising in health and safety. Their expertise provides us with a checklist and monitoring system to oversee effective daily controls.

When the time is right for the campus to reopen, we will follow the guidance of medical and scientific experts worldwide – even if this exceeds national or local requirements. In any event, we will only resume classes on campus when it is safe to do so. Scenario planning for the next school year is progressing well. This week you will receive a Parent Survey to help us better understand your opinions and perspectives.

Kind regards,

Dr Long
