Aga Khan Academy Dhaka celebrates International Literacy Day

09 September 2022

The Junior School and Senior School libraries of the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka celebrated International Literacy Day on 8 September 2022. This year, the day’s theme was “Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces”. According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this theme serves as “an opportunity to rethink the fundamental importance of literacy and learning spaces to build resilience and ensure quality, equitable, and inclusive education for all.”

To bring harmony through reading in a diverse community, the Junior School library organised its first library event to promote literacy through posters and a multilingual storytelling session in different classrooms.

Students of the Primary Years Programme read passages in three different languages: English, Bangla and Hindi, reflecting on a world full of love and harmony among diversity. Meanwhile, the Middle Years Programme students celebrated the day at the Senior School library through fun and engaging activities, including designing bookmarks, cubee robotics crafts and origami.

“I enjoyed the presentation,” said Grade 4 student Mahveen Sharmeen Rahman. “The story was very good. I liked the way they presented in three different languages. The posters were also very creative.”
