Grade 4 students meet a human rights specialist

13 September 2023

On 5 September 2023, Grade 4 students and staff welcomed Professor Dr M Muzaherul Huq, secretary general at Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights and the master trainer of ethics at United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, at the Aga Khan Academy Dhaka. Dr Huq had an interactive session with the students. He shared insights about the rights of children and the challenges, risks and opportunities that come along.

The session explored various challenges such as poverty, lack of access to education and exploitation faced by today's children across the world. Dr Huq motivated the students to attain a greater purpose in life by learning more about children's rights and taking part in initiatives supporting the well-being of children. The session also shed light on the importance of children's rights as stated in the international conventions and laws. He emphasised his messages by highlighting the significance of every child being treated with dignity irrespective of their circumstances and background.

Grade 4 homeroom teacher Ms Fatema Bushra pointed out how collaboration in groups can bring positive changes in children's lives and provide them with scopes to excel.

"The guest speaker session was a powerful and enlightening experience," said Grade 4 homeroom teacher Ms Fatema. "It reinforced the idea that together we can positively impact children's lives and ensure they have the opportunities they deserve to thrive."
