Back on the pitch: Aga Khan Academy Dhaka hosts the inter-school football tournament 2025
The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka Inter-School Football Tournament 2025 brought renewed energy to the Academy’s field as schools across Dhaka gathered for two days of competitive play in December. Building on the strong foundation of previous years, the tournament brought together young athletes in a competitive yet collegial environment, reaffirming the Academy’s commitment to holistic education through sport.
This year’s tournament saw participation from 15 schools, with teams competing across multiple categories spanning Middle School, High School and Senior School divisions for both boys and girls. From the opening fixtures to the final matches, the field reflected a high level of preparation, focus and enthusiasm.
Matches across the tournament were closely contested, with students demonstrating resilience, tactical awareness and sportsmanship. From Grades 6 through 12, players remained fully engaged across consecutive fixtures, supporting teammates and acknowledging opponents in the spirit of fair play.
Reflecting on the purpose of the event, Lead Physical Health Education Teacher and Wellness Coordinator Mr Amit Ahire noted that the tournament extended beyond results and rankings. “Inter-school sport provides students with a structured space to learn cooperation, perseverance and respect,” Mr Amit said. “These experiences shape character and reinforce values that remain relevant far beyond the field.”
The successful delivery of the tournament was the result of careful planning and coordination. Suzana Masud, a DP2 student and Senior School girls’ division player from the Academy, emphasised how the tournament offered balance alongside competition.
“The tournament was a breath of fresh air amidst the pressures of academic life, and, as a player, the competitive yet inclusive atmosphere made the experience much more fulfilling,” Suzana said. “The days of careful planning were clearly reflected in the event’s smooth execution, from effective player management to well-organised facilities and matches.”
Student leadership was visible throughout the tournament, both on and off the pitch. A significant contribution came from the student volunteers, whose efforts supported the smooth running of the tournament. From match coordination and equipment management to guiding visiting teams, their commitment ensured that the event progressed efficiently.
The tournament concluded with strong performances across all divisions. Daffodil International School, Uttara claimed the “Middle School Boys” title, while Sir John Wilson School emerged as champions in both the “High School Boys” and “Senior School Boys” categories. Playpen secured the “Middle School Girls” and “High School Girls” title, and the Academy won the “Senior School Girls” division.
The Aga Khan Academy Dhaka Inter-School Football Tournament 2025 demonstrated the Academy’s aim to provide a platform for leadership, collaboration and learning. The Academy congratulates all participating schools, champions and contributors for upholding the values of sportsmanship and community that continue to define the tournament.
