Welcome back assembly

Following the term break, all of the students and staff at the Aga Khan Academy Maputo gathered together virtually for a whole school assembly to welcome each other back.

Virtual museum visit to Aga Khan Museum, Toronto

On 18 February, 2020, students of Grade 7 had the unique opportunity to have a virtual visit to Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada. This virtual visit presented students with an opportunity to explore an exhibition titled Caravans of Gold, Fragments in Time. It shed light on Africa’s rich history, educating the students about the spread and historical influence of the Saharan trading communities that connected Africa and Europe.

Grade 8 visits Mozambique's oldest running newspaper

On Monday, 17 February, 2020, 11 students from Grade 8 visited the oldest newspaper of the country — Noticias. Their Portuguese teacher, Adilia Cabral, planned the field trip to the offices of the daily as her students are currently learning how to write news pieces in their classes.

Celebrating friendship and the tradition of Marrabenta

14 February, 2020 was an eventful day at the Aga Khan Academy Maputo. Sat beneath sun and shade, students and teachers marked what we called ‘Friendship Day’ with a picnic and a special event to honour the beautiful Mozambican dance tradition of Marrabenta.

Geology rocks!

Students from Grade 6 recently visited the Museum of Geology in Maputo and engaged with rock and mineral artefacts to broaden then understanding of the geological wealth of Mozambique.

On Thursday 14 November 2019, the International Exchange Manager for the Aga Khan Academies, Elizabeth MacFarlane, conducted two sessions introducing the Student Exchange Programme, which will now engage Aga Khan Academy Maputo students. Introduced in 2018, the exchange enables Academies’ Year 9 students to study and live at another Academy for three months, from the end of August to the beginning of December.

May the best mango win

Parents and students came together on a hot November day to compete in two events: the Mango Challenge and Masterchef Competition. A number of tasty treats and dishes were presented following which winners were awarded trophies and certificates.
