Lee O’Leary Appointed as Interim Head of Aga Khan Academy Maputo

Mr Lee O’Leary has been appointed as the interim Head of the Aga Khan Academy Maputo for one full academic year with effect from 1 August 2016. 

Lee has been with the English Schools Foundation based in Hong Kong for 17 years, with the last ten years in senior administrative and leadership positions, particularly in areas of curricular development and student welfare, in and beyond the classroom.

Whilst the search for the permanent Head of Academy continues, Lee will provide the appropriate leadership, curriculum knowledge, student welfare expertise, passion and commitment to the vision of the Academies to ensure the delivery of the strategy that has been set as the Academy is expanded over the next academic year. 

Lee attained his Post Graduate Certificate in Education for the subjects of French and Spanish and began his teaching career in the UK. Prior to this Lee gained a BA Honors Degree in Hispanic Studies specializing in Spanish and Portuguese language, literature and history which also included a year at the University of Lisbon. In 1994 he attained a Master in Public Administration from the University of Liverpool. He is fluent in English, Portuguese, Spanish and French with intermediate proficiency in Chinese. Lee has been an International Baccalaureate (IB) Senior Examiner in film for over eight years and is a member of the IB Curriculum Review team for the Diploma Programme film studies course. Lee also works with Hong Kong University as a part time lecturer for the postgraduate course on Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Lee is married to Ita who is currently Head of Chinese in a Hong Kong international school and also teaches Theory of Knowledge.
