MYP Service and Action Event

AKA, Hyderabad students in MYP (Middle Years Programme) 2, 3, 4 and 5 have started undertaking service and action activities. They have visited nearby government schools and worked on various projects to help develop the schools’ facilities.

The Academy hosted a Service and Action meeting on 27 Nov 2014 to celebrate the success of this unique programme. Various government school heads participated in this meeting, including from Zilla Parishad High School for Girls and Mandal Parishad Primary School.

The meeting started with a welcome address by the Academy’s Senior School Principal, Mr Raymond Zinsli. The student representatives shared their service and action activities and experiences with the audience. Everybody appreciated the initiative taken by these young students to support their schools. We hope to see many more collaborations in the future.

The International Baccalaureate MYP curriculum provides a platform for students to build on and transform academic knowledge and skills into practiced attitude and behavior in real-life contexts, including:

  • Discover and build personal connections to community issues that motivate them to take action for change and to make a positive difference in the life of others.
  • Develop an altruistic attitude which enriches the life of the student through enhanced insight into different social patterns and ways of life.
  • Develop awareness of the role of the individual within a community.
  • Connect local issues to those of global significance and to work understand possible root causes to these complex issues.
  • Develop sensitivity to the needs of the community and society in general.
