KITE 2016 – The First Telangana International Kite Festival to be Hosted by the Academy!

29 December 2015

Sankranthi 2016 is an exciting and momentous occasion for the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad. We will be organizing and hosting KITE 2016, Telangana’s first international kite festival on 14–15 January 2016 at the Academy campus. This two-day event is an exciting initiative by the Department of Youth Advancement, Tourism and Culture of the Telangana State Government, in collaboration with Shilparamam, the arts, crafts and cultural village; the Architecture and Design Foundation, India; and the Royal Kite Flyers Club of India. We are thrilled and honoured to have national and international teams of talented kite-flyers participating at KITE 2016.

Thousands of kite enthusiasts, families and government school communities will gather to celebrate the rich cultural, food and craft traditions of Hyderabad and the Deccan region. KITE 2016 aims to promote women’s empowerment, particularly girl child education, and to raise awareness and support for merit-based opportunities to access world class education through collaboration with NGO’s, and corporates and government agencies.

Shilparamam  will support KITE 2016 through  an arts and crafts mela. Specialty foods will be featured in a seasonal food fair, and there will be a full festival programme for children and adults that includes kite design, making and painting; photography competitions; paper craft and origami; presentations and exhibitions on kite flying. In short, there will be something for everyone.

We invite you, the entire Academy community, to support this pioneer festival by participating actively... a milestone in our journey as an Aga Khan Academy, committed to making a difference in our region.
