Academy Junior School celebrates Book Day

05 March 2018

The Academy Junior School celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 1st March 2018. Students dressed as their favourite literary characters, read in groups and attended a guest lecture by a published children’s author.

Ms. Chloe Hill and Ms. Nivedita Paul, dressed as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, anchored the morning event held at the Junior School library where students and teachers came in costume and spoke about their characters. There were creatively assembled costumes by both students and teachers.

The festivities moved to the courtyard and proceeded to the corridors of the Academy Senior School. Music faculty Mr. Samuel led a band of Senior School students to provide music for the event. Sanmit of grade 3 said, "The best part was the parade to the Senior School with the band music.”

Students also participated in buddy reading where they shared books and read with students from different grades.

That afternoon, Hyderabad based author, Arti Sonthalia, spoke to students encouraging them to explore the pleasures of reading. She gave examples of celebrities who read every day in spite of their busy schedule.

Celebrations continued the next day with Holi, where children danced to Rajasthani folk music and participated in other performances along with their teachers.
