Head’s Welcome
Admission to the Academy is based on merit, and financial aid is available to ensure access for students with demonstrated need. Pluralism is a core value and dimension of the educational programme at the Academy, and we are proud that the student body of the Academy reflects the full diversity of East Africa, including students from all socio-economic backgrounds.
The Academy is an intellectually rigorous environment. The approach to teaching and learning is to develop the whole person, and is student-centred. It’s an approach that emphasises inquiry and the development of critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. The Academy is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School – the IB curriculum is locally rooted and globally relevant. Our graduates consistently earn places and scholarships at top universities worldwide.
The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa strives to develop future leaders with the skills, knowledge, and dispositions to support positive development in their societies. The Aga Khan Curricular Strands value pluralism, ethical conduct, understanding of cultures worldwide and governance and civil society. The faculty has worked hard to offer opportunities that move the student from the theoretical to an understanding of creative problem-solving and student action. In the end, we have confident learners who know themselves as learners, have explored their passions, and believe that education is a creative, joyful process that engenders hope and curiosity.
A strong, nurturing residential programme is available for secondary students, which starts in Grade 6 and fosters self-discipline, personal responsibility and leadership skills. Some of our teachers serve as dorm parents, and the small student-to-teacher ratio in the student residences assures a disciplined and caring environment. Careful attention is paid to students’ academic achievement and to their physical, emotional and spiritual development.
We welcome you to visit us for one of our daily tours or come to one of our open days. We are proud of our outstanding facilities, and would be pleased to share with you the excitement in learning that our students display. You will see the diversity of our curriculum and co-curricular life, and be impressed by our beautiful campus, which overlooks the Indian Ocean.
Welcome to the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa!
