Year One Open Day

03 February 2012

The Year 1 Open Day, an annual event which gives prospective parents and students a chance to learn more about the Academy, took place on Friday 3rd February. The Academy liaises with The Aga Khan Nursery and other local nursery schools to enable parents to be more informed about the progression of their child into primary education.

The schedule for the morning began with the year 1 students introducing the IB Learner Profile to the guests in a whole school assembly. Some of the Year 6 students also presented their reflections on their growth within the PYP curriculum.

A number of student ambassadors showed their leadership skills in accompanying the parents on a tour of the campus, whilst their children had a taster of what life is like in the classroom with some of the primary teachers.

Mr Les Wilkins, Ms Naheed Karmaili and Mr Nick Alchin briefed the parents on the IB system and how the PYP programme differs in its approach to learning from other schools. The morning finished with light refreshments and snacks in the newly opened Commons.
