U13 Boys Win Cricket Championship

The Mombasa International Schools under 13 boys’ cricket tournament was held on Saturday, 8th October, hosted by Jaffery Academy. Six schools participated, namely Jaffery Academy, Shree Swaminarayan Academy, Oshwal Academy, Al Madrassa Academy, Braeburn MIS, and the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa.

AKA,M was represented by the following players: Hamad Afzaal, Rahul Kamdar, Vishaal Patel, Preet Chudasama, Bilal Gulleid, Dev Hirani, Akil Meghji, Jairaj Punjaria, Omar Bayusuf, Nihal Chavdia and Tanuj Chudasama.

In the first match, the Aga Khan Academy team dismissed Al Madrassa in four overs by scoring 32 runs against Al Madrassa’s 31 runs in six overs. The team achieved 57 runs in the second match versus Jaffery Academy, who scored 54 runs in six overs.

In the semi final AKA,M charged past Oshwal Academy in a match that was bravely fought by both teams. The Oshwal team won the toss and chose to bat first, setting a target of 58 runs in six overs. The Aga Khan boys pulled out all the stops and, with two balls to go, needed 4 more runs – a feat that Jairaj Punjaria accomplished with style to give the team the win. During this match, both teams produced their highest number of runs for the tournament.

In the finals, the Aga Khan Academy met Shree Swaminarayan Academy, who batted first, setting a target of 43 runs in six overs. The Aga Khan team fought back valiantly, managing 45 runs in five overs and thus lifting the championship trophy as the 2011 winners. All the AKA,M runs in the finals were scored by two players – Rahul Kamdar and Dev Hirani, a feat never before achieved in the history of the tournament. Rahul was also voted as the best batsman of the championship.
