The Aga Khan Academy: Champion Fundraiser!

22 September 2008

The Academy raised more funds than any other school in Mombasa (over 100,000.00 KSH) and one junior school student, Karishma Bhagani (year 6), raised more funds than any other student in Mombasa.

Wema Centre is a charitable Institution caring to over 800 disadvantaged children in Mombasa and Thika. The Wemathon is a tradition that has helped the Centre create awareness on the plight of street children and orphans, as well as raise money towards the Centre’s activities. This year the Wemathon dubbed the "Chunga Mtoto (Protect Your Child) Wemathon 2008", was in support of the sexually exploited girl child. It was a 10km walk/jog/run in Mombasa town starting and ending at The Aga Khan Sports Centre. To date AKA, M has raised over Ksh 100,000. 00 for the event and Karishma personally raised Ksh 22,550.00, a commendable effort!
