The Model United Nations (MUN) is a re-creation of the United Nations (UN) proceedings with students acting as delegates and ambassadors of different countries in various UN committees. The purpose of MUN is for students to achieve a real world understanding not only of the UN, but also of important global concerns. 

The Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad Model United Nations (AKAHMUN) had its first edition in 2013. This intra-school conference has students from grades 7 to 12 actively participating as international diplomats and reflecting the various policies of the nations they are chosen to represent. Over the years, AKAHMUN has shown improvement in the quality of debate and the increased participation of delegates.

The students arrange themselves by delegation to debate international mattersIn his opening speech Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, the Head of Academy, introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Prosun Sen, Advocacy & Communication Specialist, UNICEF Office for Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka. Dr. Fisher also spoke about the importance of MUN which will help individuals to become global citizens.

As this is a student-led conference, students were assigned diverse roles as Directors, Assistant Directors, Director General and Secretary General. AKAHMUN featured six committees including the Disarmament and International Security Council (DISEC), the Economic and Social Committee (ECOSOC), Historical Security Council (HSC), the Security Council, and the Human Rights Committee (HRC). They also had a fully-fledged Press Corps with a defined agenda!  

The Chair maintains order in the General AssemblyThe second day of the conference witnessed active participation in debating and crisis sessions. For the first time in the history of AKAHMUN, a DISEC resolution got passed.

The closing ceremony, held at the Commons, was addressed by Mr. Raymond Zinsli, the Senior School Principal. It was followed by the distribution of awards to delegates, where Secretary General Asad Boghani closed the event inspiring more expectations and hopes for AKAHMUN 2016 and the Interschool MUN to be held in January 2016.
